Why we’re getting behind Daniel Ritchie and London 2012.

We are delighted to announce that we are now supporting local rower Dan Ritchie, who is an Oarsman in the Men’s 8 Rowing Team, as he attempts to qualify for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Following the appointment of BMW Group as the Official Automotive Partner of the 2012 Games, BMW is now actively supporting British athletes, such as Ellie Simmonds and Louis Smith, via the BMW London 2012 Performance Team. Meanwhile, in line with the Performance Team initiative, BMW dealers like us will be working with local athletes, supporting their endeavours to qualify for Team GB or ParalympicsGB.

Dan trains locally at the Herne Bay Rowing Club. Margate born Dan, after just 9 months of rowing, won the elite single sculls at the Marlow Regatta and Senior 2 single sculls at Metropolitan Regatta in 2006. Dan made the GB U23 team in 2008 and has since continued to improve, and be successful, in a number of competitions including his most recent silver medal in Munich in the World Championships.

“I’m really grateful to Broad Oak and BMW for their support,” said Daniel Ritchie. “It’s tough trying to qualify for an Olympic place and it’s a big help knowing that they are behind us, helping to raise funds and awareness. It’s also fantastic having a brand new Z4 from now until the end of the 2012 Games. There’s a lot of travelling to heats, competitions and promotional events so it’s great being able to arrive there in style.”
